![]() Micro-switches located under the control panel can develop intermittent issues over time.ĥ. Tonearm gimbal bearings have been known to have some play in them that can add to noise and vibration issues compromising audio fidelity/quality.Ĥ. Tonearm is somewhat heavy the bayonet connector adds considerable weight to the tonearm making cartridge mating/selection tricky.ģ. The feet do not isolate rumble and vibration very well, so you'll need a solid surface and some dampening materials or different feet in able for the table to perform flawlessly.Ģ. The 6300 is a solid CEC built table for its time, though it has had its fair share of known issues below:ġ. It was their 1st high performance turntable originally selling for $249, was told by a Marantz executive that the factory lost $8 on every unit built. The 6300 was designed and assembled in-house by Marantz. Haha porphyriaboy, what a great tale and as you said testimony to the quality of products in these days. But there are much better tables available for the price these things command these days. Overrated? Yes, because of the Marantz name. Similar to Hitachi, Realistic models of the day. One the prettiest turntable of the 70’s, solidly built, maybe not the best by price/ performance as other audio enthusiast says, but still a nice turntable, it’s all about what cartridge and needles anyway. A Pioneer headshell from the PL-550 looks similar but is far lighter. The original is machined from a slab of aluminum which looks great but is way too heavy. One easy tweak is to replace the stock headshell with a lighter one to reduce the overall tonearm mass. The only service it has needed over the decades is a new strobe lamp for the speed adjustment and a dab of silicone damping for the cueing. Its weak points include a somewhat heavy tonearm, lack of torque, and susceptibility to acoustic feedback with the cover up. It’s a beautiful unit capable of delivering decent sound. My father bought one of these in the mid-1970s and it’s still in regular use. ![]()
